HOUSE WITH PRIVATE PATIO AND SWIMMING-POOL

Stunning holiday retreat between art and design on the French Riviera

In Saint Tropez, right in the beating heart of the French Riviera, an art gallery owner together with her partner assigned the local architectural firm Vincent Coste to design a modern villa with private pool that was able to give traditional Mediterranean architecture a more contemporary twist.

The house develops into two overlaid volumes of different dimensions, with the large overhang of the second floor being due to the small area the property stretches on; thus the idea of realising a multilayered layout so as to maximise any available space.

By unfolding into two separate levels, the villa comprises all major domestic functions on the upper level – the kitchen, living space and night-area –, while all service spaces such as the bathroom, laundry room and garage are arranged at the ground floor.

By featuring a stunning infinity pool, tables, chairs and loungers, the outdoor perimeter definitely stands out; the swimming-pool is sided by both a shaded patio and panoramic terrace that also serves as solarium.

Faithful to the principles of classic Mediterranean architecture, interiors are perfectly sun-shielded thanks to a set of combined systems: outdoor curtains made of light cotton fabric, mixed with brise-soleil and arbours, contribute to keep the house cool and well-ventilated.

Owners made a very keen selection of ultra-modern furniture with the aim of dotting the environment with artistic hints: indeed, a large number of sculptures and paintings from independent artists has been paired with vintage pieces collected over their many business and pleasure travels around the world.
